BY SARAH WEBSTER
To undergo or to cause to undergo a gradual process of transformation.
The longer we spent together, the more contorted we be--
came. I wrapped myself in you, and you did the same.
As we laid in bed at night, I wondered who we were.
Our naked bodies lying still
sheets thrown off in the sultriness of a Texas summer.
No breeze.
The night fell darker, blanketing the both of us
My soul was searching
My heart was shivering
I screamed into the silence of the night
The mold of you on me began to crack that summer
A new skin began to feel a slight stinging of a breeze
You didn't want to break our mold
You wanted it to grow
I wanted to be intertwined,
But I didn't want us wearing one another
We were wearing from wearing one anothe. The more time
we spent together, the more contorted we became.
Morph
My new skin was blazing in the breeze now
Like a thousand open wounds being watered with alcohol
My body burned
At night, as I laid alone, I felt my heart shivering again
I placed my hands over my eyes and I opened my mouth
Once more, I screamed into the silence of the night
Now you lay with someone new
What's happening to you?
Are you contorting,
Or are you breaking
Letting go
Embracing you
I only now feel comfortable in my new skin
I feel that breeze with understanding and ease
With time, I will shed this new skin
I will feel a new breeze and begin again
Morph
